Jogoos’ Dramatic Comeback Secures Top Spot in Premier League

The Jogoos staged a remarkable comeback in matchday 29 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League when they hosted URA FC at Muteesa II Stadium – Wankulukuku.

Despite falling behind to a late goal from URA’s Bruno Bunyaga in the 80th minute, SC Villa’s midfielder Umaru Lutalo equalized just three minutes later with a precise strike. Then, in the 87th minute, Jogoos’ skipper Kenneth Semakula broke through the defense and unleashed a shot into the roof of the net, securing the lead and ultimately the victory for his team.

The game was tense and evenly matched throughout. In the first half, both teams struggled to break the deadlock, with chances few and far between. However, the Jogoos remained determined, pushing forward relentlessly.

At halftime, the score remained goalless, but the intensity of the game never waned. Both sides continued to battle fiercely in the second half, with URA’s defense putting up a strong resistance against the Jogoos’ attacks.

Despite some near misses, including a shot by Lutalo hitting the crossbar in the 78th minute, the Jogoos remained undeterred. Their persistence paid off when Lutalo and Semakula scored the crucial goals in quick succession, securing the maximum points at home.

With this victory, the Jogoos moved to the top of the table with only one match remaining in the league. The prospect of being crowned champions of the 2023/24 season loomed large, adding extra significance to their final game against NEC FC.

After the match, Skipper Kenneth Semakula expressed his gratitude to his teammates for their determination and character in securing the crucial victory.

“We knew what we wanted coming into this game; we couldn’t settle for less than a win. I thank the team for coming on top of their character and collecting maximum points to take us to the final day of the season.”

SC Villa’s focus now turned to the final game of the season at the MTN OMONDI STADIUM LUGOGO, where they will play host to NEC FC.
