In a thrilling encounter between SC Villa and Maroons FC, spoils were shared in a match filled with attacking intent and high intensity. The Jogoos started the game with a strong attack-minded approach, dominating possession in the opponent’s area in the first ten minutes.
The action was relentless from the outset, with attacks coming from both sides. However, it wasn’t until the half-hour mark that a significant moment occurred when Hakim was fouled at the edge of the box. Lutalo stepped up to take the free-kick but unfortunately sent the ball soaring above the crossbar, missing a golden opportunity.

In the 57th minute, the Jogoos had another chance as Bogere’s free header was blocked by a resolute Maroons defender after a well-placed cross from Onzima Peter. It was a moment of frustration for the Villa faithful.
But the game took a turn in the 60th minute when Maroons took the lead through Fred Amaku. However, their joy was short-lived as just five minutes later, Arnold Odong equalized for the Jogoos with a clever chip at goal , thanks to Kakande’s precise back header.

As the clock ticked on, the tension continued to mount. In the 76th minute, Hakim Kiwanuka had a chance to be the hero for the day but he failed to convert what would have seemed like the winning goal, missing an opportunity to beat the goalkeeper.
In the end, both teams displayed incredible determination and attacking prowess, but the match ended in a hard-fought draw.
This website caught up with the goal scorer of the day, Anorld Odong – Here’s what the defender had to say in the post-match interview;
“I’m proud of the team’s performance. We knew Maroons FC would be a tough opponent, and it was a closely contested match. We showed great character to come back from a goal down and secure a draw. Of course, we would have liked to win, but I think our effort today was commendable.”

“Our goal is to continue improving and working together as a team. We want to climb up the league table and compete at the highest level. Personally, I’ll keep giving my best on the pitch, whether it’s in defense or contributing in attack when the opportunity arises.” Arnold Added.

The Jogoos will return home in their next Startimes Uganda Premier League hosting NEC FC on Friday, 29th September 2023.
