SC VILLA COMPLETES DOUBLE OVER EXPRESS FC

SC Villa emerged victorious over rivals Express FC in a fiercely contested derby clash. The match, part of Startimes Uganda Premier League Match Day 20, kicked off at 4 pm at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The opening exchanges saw both teams vying for supremacy, with SC Villa asserting their dominance early on by winning the first corner of the match. Despite their initial pressure, clear-cut chances were scarce for both sides in the early stages.

However, it was SC Villa who broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, thanks to Charles Lwanga Neymar’s shot after meeting a perfectly delivered back-headed cross from Juma Ramathan.

Buoyed by their goal, the Jogoos continued to dictate proceedings for the remainder of the first half, maintaining possession and limiting Express FC’s attacking opportunities.

As the second half commenced, Dusan made an early substitution, introducing Reagan Mpande to inject fresh energy into the midfield. The Jogoos started the half with intent, pressing forward in search of a second goal to put the game to bed.

Despite their relentless efforts, SC Villa were unable to find the back of the net again, with Express FC defending resolutely to keep themselves in the contest. The match was not without its fair share of physicality, as evidenced by yellow cards shown to Hakim Kiwanuka and Masembe Edward for their respective fouls on Express FC players.

In the closing stages, SC Villa showcased their depth by making strategic substitutions, bringing on Junior Niwamanya and Simon Mukisa to see out the victory. Despite a late surge from Express FC, SC Villa held firm to secure a crucial double over their rivals.

“I thank the fans for turning up to support us today. I am happy for myself having scored the winner, and I also thank the whole team for the spirit shown. We came for the win, and we’ve got it. Focus now turns to our upcoming fixtures; we need to have the points so that we succeed in our season goals.” – Forward Charles Lwanga Neymar’s reaction to the derby win.

The win pushes SC Villa to the fourth position with 18 games played, seven points behind table leaders.

The Jogoos will return to action on 29th March 2024 against Mbarara City FC at home.
