The Jogoos Stage Spectacular Comeback Against Wakiso Giants

SC Villa hosted Wakiso Giants FC at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku on Wednesday afternoon in matchday 27 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League. Despite falling behind by two goals, they managed to snatch three points at home. Wakiso Giants’ Samson Kigozi netted just before halftime, leaving the Jogoos trailing.

The away side extended their lead early in the second half through Hassan Ssenyonjo. However, the Jogoos rallied back, with Ronald Sekiganda, Umar Lutalo, and Reagan Mpande finding the net to secure a remarkable comeback victory.

In the 3rd minute, Kafumbe’s free kick was punched out by Wakiso’s Sekagya, while Sekiganda’s shot in the 7th minute missed wide left. Abas’s chance in the 15th minute sailed over the crossbar, followed by Kakande’s flick in the 24th minute. Lwanga’s attempt in the 31st minute was punched out by Sekagya, and Brardy made a nice save in the 37th minute from Kimera’s shot.

Wakiso Giants broke the deadlock in the 40th minute through Kigozi’s goal. After halftime, Ssenyonjo doubled the lead in the 56th minute. Sekiganda pulled one back with a header in the 67th minute, and Lutalo converted a penalty in the 80th minute. Mpande sealed the victory in the 87th minute.

“The boys kept pressing ahead in search for a winner. We were down in the first half and it was up to us to step up and win it. I am happy for the team effort and the three points collected. I am also happy that I scored the winner and my first top-flight goal as a Jogoo. The fans came in for us and I thank them for the support. We return home to shift our focus onto the next game.” – Forward Reagan Mpande reacts to today’s win.

SC Villa will face UPDF FC in Bombo on Saturday 11th May 2024.
