SC VILLA VISIT BUSOGA UNITED

The Jogoos will make a short trip to the eastern side to face Busoga United FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League matchday 23 at the FUFA Technical Center – Njeru on Thursday 4th April 2024.

SC Villa will look to secure a double over the home side as the first leg ended in favor of the Jogoos.

THE JOGOOS PICK IMPORTANT POINTS AT HOME

The Jogoos welcomed Mbarara City FC to Muteesa II Stadium – Wankulukuku for the second leg of the Startimes Uganda Premier League 2023/24 season on Saturday, March 30th, 2024.

The match started with both teams showing determination, with an equal share of possession in the early stages. SC Villa initiated the attack, showcasing good team interplay, but Kakande’s attempt in the 2nd minute was off target. As the game progressed, opportunities arose for both sides, with Lwanga missing a chance to connect with Sekiganda’s cross in the 13th minute.

In the 20th minute, Semugera was fouled by Mbarara’s Odong near the box, leading to a free kick for SC Villa, which was expertly converted by Lutalo, giving the Jogoos the lead.

However, Mbarara City FC quickly responded, with Kitegenyi equalizing in the 30th minute after Wokorach failed to handle a cross properly.

The first half ended with the score leveled, setting the stage for an intense second half. SC Villa came out strong after the break, with Kakande missing a shot in the 53rd minute. Managerial changes were made by the gaffer with Kiwanuka and Kyeyune coming in for Owori and Sekiganda.

In the 69th minute, Kiwanuka found the back of the net, putting SC Villa ahead once again thanks to Kafumbe’s timely cross. The Jogoos continued to press forward, displaying excellent teamwork as they searched for a third goal. Substitutions were made by SC Villa, with Mpande and Ngonde coming on the Fray.

As the match entered its final minutes, SC Villa maintained their lead, securing all three points.

SC VILLA HOST MBARARA CITY FC

The Jogoos will host western side Mbarara City FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League matchday 22 at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

SC Villa will look to maximize their opportunity at home and secure a win from their opponents in this second leg of the league. The first leg ended in a nil-nil draw in Kakyeka.

The Jogoos are boosted with the return of youngsters Hakim Mutebi, Abas Kyeyune, Patrick Kakande, and Cyrus Kibande, who were out with the Hippos participating in the Dire cup and All African Games in Ethiopia and Ghana Respectively.

Skipper Kenneth Semakula and midfielder Ronald Sekiganda are also back after representation with the Cranes in the recently concluded international friendlies against Comoros and Ghana. Assistant head coach Morley Byekwaso and Doctors Emma Nakabago and Michael Gumisiriza are also back to the staff after their respective national duties.

Goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige, with a back injury, and Defender Gavin Kizito, who got a straight red card in our last outing, will be out for this fixture. Other than the above, the squad is available and ready for selection.

SC Villa vs. Vipers SC Fixture Rescheduled

The Uganda Premier League Secretariat has confirmed the new date for the rescheduled league fixture between SC Villa and Vipers SC.

The rescheduling occurred because SC Villa had four players, Cyrus Kibande, Hakim Kiwanuka, Patrick Jonah Kakande, and Abas Kyeyune, along with coach Morley Byekwaso and Doctor Michael Gumisiriza, on the Uganda Hippos team participating in the Dire Dawa Cup in Ethiopia.

The match will now take place on April 9, 2024, at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku, on Matchday 23.

Prior to this, SC Villa will host Mbarara City FC on Saturday, March 30, 2024, and then visit Busoga United on April 6, 2024.

10-MAN JOGOOS SECURE SUCCESSFUL REVENGE IN JINJA

In a clash between SC Villa and Bul FC on matchday 21 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League, David Owori’s strike just before halftime proved decisive as the Jogoos emerged victorious despite being reduced to ten men.

In the 17th minute, a promising cross from Kafumbe narrowly missed Gavin’s timely connection which could have led to an early opener. The Jogoos continued to press, with Owori’s attempt saved by Ikara in the 20th minute.

As the game progressed, the Jogoos maintained active possession without creating clear-cut chances until the 40th minute when a slick combination between Semakula and Sekiganda set up Owori to calmly slot the ball past Ikara, giving SC Villa the lead at halftime.

After the break, the Jogoos intensified their efforts, with Kiwanuka’s shot narrowly missing the target in the 50th minute. Despite dominating possession, they struggled to break down Bul’s defense.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 60th minute when Garvin Kizito was shown a red card for a handball on the goal line following a corner from Bul, resulting in a penalty for the hosts. However, Jeans Braddy saved Kazindula’s spot-kick, preserving SC Villa’s lead.

Manager Dusan made his first substitution in the 68th minute, bringing on Umar Lutalo for Kiwanuka, as goalkeeper Braddy Jeans Wokorach made several crucial saves to keep the Jogoos ahead also making him the day’s man of the match, clinching his second clean sheet since season start

Further changes were made in the 80th minute, with Andrew Otim replacing Charles Lwanga and Ngonde Elvis coming on for Sekiganda, as SC Villa held on to claim all three points at full-time.

SC VILLA VISIT BUL FC

SC Villa will visit Jinja-based side Bul FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League match day 21 at FUFA Technical Center – Njeru. The Jogoos will look to secure a positive three points from the visit, having lost the first leg at Wankulukuku.

Team Stats:
The Jogoos have won four of their previous top-flight games, while Bul has only won one game in as many matches played.

The Jogoos’ squad is boosted with the return of defenders Arnold Odong and Gavin Kizito, who sat out the previous game due to card accumulation. The services of midfielders Patrick Jonah and Abas Kyeyune will be missed, but everyone is fit and ready for selection.

SC VILLA COMPLETES DOUBLE OVER EXPRESS FC

SC Villa emerged victorious over rivals Express FC in a fiercely contested derby clash. The match, part of Startimes Uganda Premier League Match Day 20, kicked off at 4 pm at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

The opening exchanges saw both teams vying for supremacy, with SC Villa asserting their dominance early on by winning the first corner of the match. Despite their initial pressure, clear-cut chances were scarce for both sides in the early stages.

However, it was SC Villa who broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, thanks to Charles Lwanga Neymar’s shot after meeting a perfectly delivered back-headed cross from Juma Ramathan.

Buoyed by their goal, the Jogoos continued to dictate proceedings for the remainder of the first half, maintaining possession and limiting Express FC’s attacking opportunities.

As the second half commenced, Dusan made an early substitution, introducing Reagan Mpande to inject fresh energy into the midfield. The Jogoos started the half with intent, pressing forward in search of a second goal to put the game to bed.

Despite their relentless efforts, SC Villa were unable to find the back of the net again, with Express FC defending resolutely to keep themselves in the contest. The match was not without its fair share of physicality, as evidenced by yellow cards shown to Hakim Kiwanuka and Masembe Edward for their respective fouls on Express FC players.

In the closing stages, SC Villa showcased their depth by making strategic substitutions, bringing on Junior Niwamanya and Simon Mukisa to see out the victory. Despite a late surge from Express FC, SC Villa held firm to secure a crucial double over their rivals.

SC VILLA HOSTS RETURN DERBY

SC Villa is set to host Express FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League match on Saturday, March 9th, 2024. This marks the second leg of the renowned Ugandan Derby, with the first encounter resulting in a victory for the Jogoos.

In their last five meetings, SC Villa has emerged victorious in four encounters, with Express FC securing just one win. Notably, there have been no drawn matches between the two sides.

Team Stats:
Currently, SC Villa holds the 5th position in the league standings, having amassed 30 points from 17 matches. Conversely, Express FC occupies the 8th spot with 29 points. SC Villa remains undefeated in their last five UPL matches, securing three wins and two draws. Meanwhile, Express FC has experienced two losses, two wins, and one draw in their recent UPL outings.

Team News:
SC Villa will be missing key midfielder Patrick Jonah Kakande, while Cyrus Kibande and Abas Kyeyune are on duty with the U20 national team for the All Africa Games in Ghana. Additionally, Arnold Odong and Gavin Kizito will be absent due to accumulated yellow cards. As a way of celebrating Women’s Day this year in 2024, SC Villa has taken on the challenge to select and recognize the topmost women Jogoos supporters. The activity of recognition will run for the whole month of March (women’s month).

Talking to the club media, ExCom member Sarah Adong, in charge of women’s affairs, said:

SC VILLA KNOCKED OUT OF CUP AT ROUND OF 16

In a thrilling encounter at Masindi Stadium, SC Villa faced off against Kitara FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16. Despite a valiant effort, SC Villa suffered a disappointing defeat, with Kitara emerging victorious with a 2-0 scoreline.

The match kicked off with both teams showing intent, but it was SC Villa who created the early chances. In the 7th minute, Charles Lwanga’s effort was punched out by Kitara’s goalkeeper, setting the tone for an intense battle.

As the first half progressed, SC Villa continued to press forward, with Lwanga coming close with a header that sailed just above the crossbar in the 22nd minute. Despite their efforts, The Jogoos were denied by Kitara’s defense, with a denied handball in the 25th minute.

The game saw its fair share of physicality, with yellow cards shown to the Jogoos’ skipper Semakula and substitute Abas Kyeyune for confrontations with the referee after fouls on Kakande and Kiwanuka in the 40th minute.

At halftime, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0, with both teams eager to break the deadlock in the second half. SC Villa continued to push forward after the break, with Meddie Kibirige pulling off a fantastic save to deny Kitara from scoring from a corner in the 59th minute.

However, despite their efforts, the Jogoos found themselves trailing in the 80th minute when Kitara’s Frank Tumwesigye capitalized on a corner to take the lead. The situation worsened for the Jogoos in the 85th minute after Paul Mucurezi doubled the home side’s advantage with another goal.

Despite late substitutions and a spirited effort, SC Villa couldn’t find a way back into the game, and the final whistle blew with Kitara emerging victorious with a 2-0 win. With this result, SC Villa bowed out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

SC VILLA VISIT KITARA FC IN CUP ROUND OF 16

On Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, the Jogoos are scheduled to visit Kitara FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, marking their third encounter this season after two meetings in the Startimes Uganda Premier League.

In their previous visit to Masindi, they managed a 1-1 draw, and SC Villa is eager to secure maximum points tomorrow to progress to the next round of the cup tournament.

The SC Villa squad receives a boost with the return of Patrick Kakande, Cyrus Kibande, and Abas Kyeyune from the U20 national team. Additionally, Norman Angufindru and Umaru Lutalo have recovered from their respective injuries and are available for selection.

Skipper Kenneth Semakula shared his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s match against Kitara, stating, 

“We’ve prepared well for the upcoming challenge, and we’re fully ready! Kitara is a formidable team, especially at their home ground with their strong fan base. However, since we’ve faced them before, we’re confident in our ability to handle the pressure. Additionally, Hakim Mutebi and Patrick Jonah Kakande will be showcasing their talents upfront. SC Villa’s influence extends beyond the players, with team doctor Michael Gumisiriza and Head coach Morley Byekwaso also part of the delegation.

JOGOOS EASE PAST SYNERGY FC TO REACH CUP ROUND OF 16

SC Villa hosted regional side Synergy FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 on Sunday, February 18th, at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku.

In the 10th minute, The Jogoos displayed a full attack, aiming to open the scores, with Charles Lwanga missing a chance to meet Onzima’s cross.

By the 12th minute, Onzima’s shot went wide after a well-executed buildup with Ngonde Elvis.

The 20th minute saw a promising attack from SC Villa as they began utilizing the wings more frequently.

In the 25th minute, Charles Lwanga received a free cross from Kiwanuka, but Synergy’s keeper managed to punch the ball out of the area.

Another chance arose in the 30th minute as Charles Lwanga’s header bounced above the crossbar following a nice cross from Owori. Despite half an hour of play, there was still nothing to separate the sides.

However, just before halftime in the 44th minute, Charles Lwanga scored, opening the score for The Jogoos after some impressive interplay.

The second half started with a bang as @HakimKiwanuka1 marked his territory with a splendid solo effort in the 46th minute. SC Villa extended their lead in the 50th minute as Onzima Peter found the back of the net, assisted by Charles ‘Neymar’ Lwanga. In the 62nd minute, @HakimKiwanuka1 secured his brace with another goal. Substitutions were made in the 63rd minute by Dusan, bringing in Otim Andrew, Reagan Mpande, and Gavin Kizito.

A notable substitution occurred in the 69th minute as teenager Junior Niwamanya made his debut, replacing Arnold Odong. The 75th minute witnessed another goal for SC Villa as @reagan_mpande1 opened his Jogoo account with an assist from Otim. Despite a chance by Junior Niwamanya being ballooned in the 83rd minute, the young players Otim and Junior kept the defenders on their toes. An offside goal by Otim Andrew (Osimeni) was scored in the 86th minute.

The match concluded with a full-time victory for The Jogoos against Synergy FC, securing their place in the round of 16.

“I am happy that I made my debut today and kept a clean sheet. I thank the team for their hard work and for scoring many goals against our opponents,” noted Jeans Braddy Wokorach.

“We didn’t underestimate our opponents today, despite them being a third division club. We knew it wouldn’t be an easy game, so we followed the coaches’ instructions diligently. Now, we’ll prepare for our next fixture in the UPL,” added Braddy

The Jogoos will return to action on Saturday, February 24th, in the Startimes Uganda Premier League against Vipers SC.
